About the AI-Powered Robotics Workshop
This workshop is part of Creya Learning's Maker in Teacher Workshop Series, a professional-development initiative that enables educators to experience learning as makers, designers and problem-solvers. By combining practical technology skills with design thinking, experimentation and reflection, the series helps teachers build the confidence to facilitate hands-on, inquiry-led learning in their classrooms.
The AI-Powered Robotics workshop brings this maker approach to the exciting intersection of Artificial Intelligence, programming, electronics and robotics. Teachers explore how an ordinary model lock can become an intelligent system that receives a command, decides whether access should be granted and triggers a physical action.
By experimenting with face and voice recognition and building an automated access-control prototype, participants experience how AI can move beyond the screen to control something they can see, hear and operate. As they assemble components, programme logic, test inputs, debug failures and improve the system, teachers develop both a working prototype and the confidence to facilitate similar computational-thinking and innovation experiences with their students.
Experiential Learning Guarantee
Every participant builds, tests, improves and leaves with a classroom-ready artefact or working prototype, backed by a structured reflection model.
Core Learning Pillars
The fundamental pedagogical and technical skills educators develop during this session:
AI and Robotics Integration
Understand how AI-generated recognition results can become inputs for a physical robotic system.
Microcontroller Programming
Use a microcontroller to read inputs, apply programmed logic and control output devices.
Face and Voice Recognition
Explore how AI systems identify visual or spoken patterns and examine their practical limitations.
Access-Control Logic
Develop rules that grant or deny access based on a passcode or recognised voice command.
Mechanisms and Automation
Control a servo or suitable actuator to operate a model locking mechanism.
Computational Thinking
Break the system into inputs, decisions, outputs and testable steps.
Testing and Debugging
Identify errors involving wiring, communication, recognition results or programme logic and improve system reliability.
Responsible AI Use
Consider privacy, accuracy, bias, false recognition and the need for human oversight in AI-based access systems.
Presentation and Storytelling
Explain the need, system workflow, technology, testing process and limitations through a live prototype demonstration.
Teacher as Maker and Facilitator
Experience the complete building and debugging process firsthand and learn how to guide students through open-ended AI and Robotics projects with greater confidence.
4.5-Hour Workshop Schedule
A carefully balanced cadence of inquiry, guided builds, team prototyping, and reflection:
Introduction to AI-Powered Robotics
Explore how AI, robotics and automation work together. Examine familiar examples such as voice-controlled devices, facial recognition and smart access systems. Understand the roles of the AI-recognition tool, microcontroller and locking mechanism.
AI Recognition Exploration
Experiment with face and voice recognition. Observe how the system identifies patterns and responds to clear, unclear or unexpected inputs. Discuss recognition accuracy, privacy, bias and practical limitations.
Guided Build: Passcode-Controlled Lock
Assemble a low-voltage model lock using a microcontroller and servo or suitable actuator. Programme passcode entry, access approval and denial, visual or sound feedback, and lock-and-unlock actions.
AI Integration: Voice-Activated Access
Connect an AI-enabled voice-recognition interface to the robotic control system. Define authorised commands, programme the access logic and test how the lock responds to accepted, incorrect and unclear commands.
Testing and Debugging
Test the complete system, identify wiring, communication, recognition and logic errors, and improve its reliability.
Prototype Showcase
Teams demonstrate their prototypes and explain how the systems work, their possible applications and their limitations.
Why Attend This Workshop?
