About the Build with AI Workshop
This workshop is part of Creya Learning's Maker in Teacher Workshop Series, a professional-development initiative that enables educators to experience learning as makers, designers and problem-solvers. By combining practical technology skills with design thinking, experimentation and reflection, the series helps teachers build the confidence to facilitate hands-on, inquiry-led learning in their classrooms.
The Build with AI workshop brings this maker approach into the world of digital and AI-enabled application development. Using accessible no-code, low-code and AI-assisted tools, teachers move beyond using ready-made applications and begin creating purposeful digital solutions of their own, without requiring prior programming experience.
Through three guided builds, they explore how purpose, users, interface design, navigation, application logic and AI-generated responses come together. As participants build, test and improve their applications, they gain both practical creation skills and the confidence to guide students in developing thoughtful, functional and responsible digital solutions. By the end of the workshop, participants will understand how an application moves from an initial idea to a functional prototype across three accessible creation platforms.
Experiential Learning Guarantee
Every participant builds, tests, improves and leaves with a classroom-ready artefact or working prototype, backed by a structured reflection model.
Core Learning Pillars
The fundamental pedagogical and technical skills educators develop during this session:
Application Design
Understand how purpose, target users, screens, navigation and user interactions come together in an application.
No-Code and Low-Code Development
Use accessible visual-development platforms to build applications without writing complex code.
User Experience and Interface Design
Create clear, engaging and easy-to-use screens suited to different users and purposes.
Application Logic
Understand how user inputs, conditions, navigation, feedback and outputs determine an application's behaviour.
AI-Powered Functionality
Explore how AI can interpret user questions, generate responses and support application functionality.
Prompt Design for AI Applications
Write clear instructions that help an AI-powered application produce relevant, consistent and appropriate responses.
Testing and Iteration
Test applications with different inputs, identify problems and improve their functionality and user experience.
Responsible AI and Digital Design
Consider accuracy, privacy, bias, age appropriateness, limitations and the importance of teacher or human oversight.
Teacher as Maker and Facilitator
Experience the application-development process firsthand and learn how to guide students through open-ended digital and AI-enabled projects with greater confidence.
4.5-Hour Workshop Schedule
A carefully balanced cadence of inquiry, guided builds, team prototyping, and reflection:
Introduction to Building with AI
Explore how applications combine purpose, users, interfaces, inputs, navigation, logic, AI processing and outputs. Examine how no-code, low-code and AI-assisted platforms make application creation accessible without prior programming experience.
Build 1: Gaming App
Define the game objective, target learner, rules and challenges. Design the main screens and connect them through an interactive prototype that simulates gameplay, choices and feedback.
Build 2: Quiz App
Create an interactive quiz with a welcome screen, questions, answer choices, navigation, score tracking and feedback for correct and incorrect responses.
Build 3: AI Helpdesk
Define the helpdesk's purpose, intended users and boundaries. Build an interface through which users can submit questions and receive AI-generated responses. Refine the application's instructions, response style and limitations.
Application Improvement Challenge
Select one of the three applications and improve its features, interface, prompts, navigation or user experience. Test it with another participant, observe how the user interacts with it and make changes based on feedback.
Showcase, Responsible Use and Reflection
Demonstrate the completed applications and explain their intended users, purpose and key features. Discuss accuracy, privacy, bias, age appropriateness, limitations and responsible use in schools. Reflect on how similar application-building experiences can be adapted for students.
Why Attend This Workshop?
Actionable outcomes and mindset shifts teachers take directly into their classrooms:
Move from AI user to application creator
Learn how digital and AI capabilities can be combined to create purposeful solutions.
Build without prior coding experience
Use accessible visual and AI-assisted platforms to create interactive applications.
Understand application logic
Learn how screens, user inputs, conditions, navigation, feedback and outputs work together.
Test and improve solutions
Use peer feedback and different test inputs to strengthen functionality and usability.
Connect applications to teaching
Adapt the projects for assessment, learning support, student engagement and school communication.
Design better user experiences
Create applications that are clear, engaging and appropriate for their intended users.
Support student innovation
Gain the confidence to facilitate digital application-development and AI-creation challenges with students.
Grow through the Maker in Teacher Series
Build practical technology skills and an innovation mindset that complement other workshops in the series and strengthen your ability to facilitate experiential learning.
Expected Impact
After the workshop, teachers will understand how to move from an application idea to an interactive and functional prototype. They will be able to identify a purpose and intended user, design interfaces, build navigation and application logic, integrate AI-generated responses, test different inputs and improve the application using feedback.
By participating in this workshop, teachers gain more than familiarity with application-development tools. They experience how digital and AI capabilities can be shaped into purposeful solutions for learning and school contexts. As part of the Maker in Teacher Workshop Series, the experience strengthens their ability to use AI thoughtfully in their professional practice and guide students towards becoming creative, responsible and confident builders of digital and AI-enabled solutions.
